Outfit post: Leopard hat and boots

Hat | Vintage Find
Coat | Primark
Jumper | Massimo Dutti mens ( Lorenzo's shrunk jumper)
Jeans | Dr Denims
Boots | Gift
Gold Necklace | Accessorize
Bag | H&M

Sometimes when it rains, there is nothing I love more than putting on my leopard hat and pretending to be Indiana Jones. And as if the hat wasn't enough, I throw on my leopard ankle boots for good measure. I don't own many hats, so when I wear this one out I am being braver than usual. I know it seems a bit much, but it's probably what I like most about this look!
I feel really cosy in this look, which is essentially a jumper and jeans, but I love the chic element that the hat adds to it. I definitely want to try to wear hats more. It's important to get the right shape, as I have a very small face, so I can sometimes get swamped by anything too over powering. For example beanies are not my friend!
What is you verdict on the hat? Do you wear them and if you do how?

Who's That girl?! Alexa Chung

Who's That Girl

Who's That Girl?! This is how I feel sometimes when I see an impossibly cool, chic girl on the street, who looks so put together, yet also like she threw on the first thing she found when she woke up.
The look usually is made up of great basics, but with quirky accessories and a pinch of confidence. She is a girl who owns her individual look. She loves trends and keeping up with fashion, but she also knows what suits her and has fun with it.
The inspiration behind this look from ModCloth, that I created on Polyvore, is Alexa Chung.
I love that Alexa pairs flats with dresses and uses a leather jacket to give a harder edge to an otherwise more feminine look. These metallic loafers are to die for and are so on trend this season. They add that quirky edge that I mentioned before, as do the layering of bracelets, the vintage style handbag and finishing off the look with some cat eye sunglasses.

Here are my top 5 style tips on how to achieve this look:
  1. Leave your heels at home. This look is great for all night dancing and your friends will be green with envy as they hobble home!
  2. Layer your jewellery, mixing different trinket pieces. Pick jewellery that has a meaning for you, it could be piece you picked but on a trip you did. This shows your individuality as a trendsetter rather than a trend follower.
  3. When wearing something super feminine, like this fifties, full skirted dress add something hard and edgy to toughen up the look, like a biker jacket. This is great for helping you dress down the look for a night out with friends or even a first date.
  4.  Add feminine accessories like this vintage style bag and some cat eye sunglasses to finish off the look. These unique pieces will get you those second looks.
  5. For make-up and hair keep it simple. Hair should be either loosely pinned back or down and unstyled. Make up should be natural but try Alexa's signature cat eye eyeliner for some glamour.
Let me know what you think of this look and Alexa's style.

Bloggers and their boyfriends: The Men behind the lens

When it comes to blogging, it can be a lonely affair. It's all down to you, your little notebook full of ideas and writing away, hoping all the while that you are not talking to yourself! You relish in the little comments you receive and that little ping sound that alerts you that you have a new follower. However there is someone who doesn't get enough consideration, if any at all and that is the photographer.

I don't know about you, but I find that a lot of bloggers use their other halves for their blog pictures. I guess they care enough about our passion for fashion that they are willing to stand outside, rain, hail, wind or snow just to get the perfect shot of those new ZARA heels!

I think we need to take a moment to appreciate our patient and talented photographers, who let us boss them around and let us take up their weekends, just to get the right angle on a busy street.

First up is Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad. She has had two boyfriends as photographers. It was tough to see doe eyed Richie leave our screens, but edgy Andrew was a worthy replacement!

Next up is the quirky Parisian duo Betty Autier of Le Blog de Betty and Mathiew Lebreton of DAAAMN, they both have a blog and he is a photographer.
Betty and Mathieu

The most high fashion and professional couple has be  Garance Dore and Scott Schuman, they are like the Jay-Z and Beyonce of fashion blogging. She describes herself as a fashion photographer, illustrator, and writer and you can follow her on her blog www.garancedore.fr. And of course the one and only Scott Schuman is the creator and the photographer behind The Sartorialist.

This Scandinavian power couple, Caroline Blomst and photographer boyfriend Daniel Troyse, work on her blog Carolines Mode and cover some of the best street style in Sweden.

Last but not least is a tribute to my own photographer, Lorenzo. His patience knows no bounds! Although he may not be a professional photographer, he has a great eye and always comes up with new ideas on how to photograph what I am wearing. Plus he has great style too ;)

What are your thoughts on blogger boyfriends? Who takes your blog photos?

I want to hear from you :)

Love, Life & The Latest Thing

This week NYFW hit the runways strutting everything we'll be coveting over the next six months, but it's also a time to think about love as Valentine's Day closes out the week. Will you be celebrating? Some will, others will roll their eyes, but either way, it's certainly fun to think about what we'll be wearing.

Outfit Post: Pink Coat

PINK COAT | OASAP
SHAGGY SWEATER | PRIMARK/PENNYS
METALLIC BAG | GIFT
POINTY CHELSEA BOOTS | ZARA

Happy Valentine's day all!
Whether your into it or not, its difficult to avoid. I don't really celebrate it, but I am never one to miss the opportunity for dressing up. I think this pink coat from OASAP is very fitting for the occasion at hand. I got it a couple of months back and I had wanted one for so long, not just because it was on trend, but because it was feminine and added pop of colour to outfits, especially in these grey, rainy Spring days.

It is just a quick post from me today, to show you this look so let me know what you think?
Enjoy your Valentine's Day plans and whatever they maybe, make sure you dress to impress!

Alexander Wang: A man who understands women

All images from style.com

Alexander Wang was playing with fire last Saturday, when he dragged the glamorous, well heeled New York fashion industry out to Brooklyn, the space was a Duggal Greenhouse. It left a lot of fashion goers saying "this better be good!"
Wang's Fall 2014 collection was definitely worth crossing the bridge for, that being said, had I got an invitation I would of swam the Atlantic, while being chased by hungry sharks, just to be there, never mind a measly bridge!

The model's powered down the runway, with stern faces, clearly on a mission to get where they were going. Urban warriors are what they reminded me of, with Ken doll hair!
The clothes were sleek and the influence of modern sports wear was ever present, if not a little more luxe this time. Suede coats with uneven hems and oversized shearling coats that actually looked warm, seemed to predict the Polar Vortex that is currently thrashing the East coast. The possibility of actually being warm, while looking cool was just one of the elements of practicality that Wang tapped into.

Wang seems to understand the women of the 21st Century well and he let us know by giving us pockets. Yes that's right, pockets and lots of them. You see a bag is not enough. Between iPhones, Blackberrys, iPads, cigarettes, lipstick, tampons, metro cards, sunglasses, umbrellas, ballerina flats.....there was a pocket for each one. The 21st Century girl, runs from her house to work, to yoga to drinks with friends, catches a movie and then crashes for her essential 8 hours, after cleansing, toning and moisturising of course, only to do it all again, the next day. There was an enviable energy infused in each piece.

In the end the Wang girl is a warrior of the urban concrete jungle. The styling is sleek yet bulky, but it is in the details that she finds her armour. Sharp pointed boots, rising above the knee. Heavily padded jackets and and a hidden neck. Base colours of pavement grey and muddy brown fought with pops of cobalt blue, neon pinks and yellows. And as if she were a secret superhero, the Wang girl came to life at the end of the show, her all black exterior, transformed by heat sensitive leather, which revealed laser cut designs in a spectrum of neon colours.
Alexander Wang gave us everything we wanted and never knew we needed and that is why, and I don't say this lightly, he is the only man who understands the 21st Century Woman.

What are your thoughts?
