Freckles: The Human Print

Above photographs from Retro Caduff's book "Freckles"

Freckles are finally being celebrated in Los Angeles based photographer, Retro Caduff's new book, entitled "Freckles". He says  “I’ve always liked freckles,” he says, “but working on shoots over the years, I noticed that they usually get covered with makeup or digitally removed in post-production. So I decided to celebrate the spots rather than erase them.”
I say yay for the freckles ! I love mine. When I think of freckles I think of summer, being young and Benetton ads.
What are you thoughts on freckles? Love them ? Hate them? Got them?

That's all for now,

A Missoni Affair

All photos were taken by Vogue.it

Saturday the 23rd of June 2012, saw Margherita Missoni, heir of the Missioni fashion dynasty, marry  Eugenio Amos. The breath taking bride was every inch the ethereal princess in a dress by Roman designer Giambattista Valli. The dress was a classical white with embroidered daises and billowing sleeves. A delicate tiara graced her head and mirrored the daisy wreaths worn by the bridesmaids.
An outdoor soiree followed with a simple lunch on the grass. Guests relaxed at little tables on Missoni cushions and mats.
I like Margherita's fresh and simple approach to her wedding, something we may not have expected for the heir of such a magnificent brand, such as Missoni. It refreshing and makes me look forward to her working more within the company itself.
That's all for now,
Love Dani,
xx

It's a Man's World

Relationships can be tough on your individuality. When you become someones other half are you really aware of what you're giving up or even gaining?
First there are the couples dinners, then come the couples Christmas cards ( killing two birds with one stone and saving a tree somewhere I imagine, is the end goal) and before you know it you are "WEing" all over the place.
But what happens when your boyfriend's style happens to worm it's way into your wardrobe.

One of the big trends this season has been the masculine shirt. Bloggers the world over have been tirelessly crafting theirs from plastics, doilies and left over toilet paper roles in an effort to achieve this masculine look. Layer it under heavy cable knits with only your recently studded collar, DIY of course, in view.
I, being the trendiest sheep I know, have also jumped on the bandwagon. However my disaster of a collar made from tin foil left me with only, a sheer, black shirt with leather collar detail to play with.
Since it is winter over here (that being Australia), I have chosen to layer it with a mannish, grandad red knit I recently purchased for the chilly season. Add some distressed boyfriend jeans and chunky ankle boots and my look was complete.
I can't help but read over the labels of this blog post; boyfriend, masculine, DIY, mannish, grandad?!
Have men's wardrobes completely invaded our style? or have we just taken the best parts and made them better?
Let me know your thoughts?
Thanks for reading,
Love Dani xx

Style, personalized.

Edited By: Taylor Davies

The submissions for this week's Links a la Mode were a total turn around from last week's, but isn't that always the way with blogging? One week you want to talk about the Prada exhibit at The Met, and the next you want to share your DIY for a fabulous studded collar. As bloggers we each try to own our niche and develop a personality, but the fun is in being able to expand; to shift gears and to evolve our content any way we choose. The 20 links below represent a myriad of personal points-of-view, from color obsessions to trend tips learning to love dressing for yourself and no one else.

Another season, another collaboration for Swedish powerhouse H&M.You would think by now we would be over the hysteria of another designer and high street name coming together to offer us, little people, a glimpse into how the other half live and well, dress. However word on the street is H&M have veered away from their usual big name obvious choice of designer and are teaming up with Maison Martin Margiela.
If you are not familiar with the house let me get you up to speed on what we can expect from such a meeting of minds.

Maison Martin Margiela is the brainchild of a Belgian designer, Martin Margiela. Googling him is useless as there is little or no information about the man. He doesn't exist, or at least doesn't want to be found. You see this Belgian designer never had his photograph taken as he didn't want his identity to be revealed.

Despite the mysterious air, he did in fact do a stint at Jean Paul Gaultier and was creative director of Hermes from 1997-2003.
He launched his own label in 1989 and along with the Antwerp Six, he carried on the revolt started by Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garcons) and other Japanese avantgardists, against the glamour and excess of the 1980s. This essentially became the principals of his label. His designs were contemporary, conceptual and he made a mark as a true master of design.

Over sized proportions and lining and seams on the outside of garments offered a fresh perspective on the sequins and poofy dresses of the 1980s. His idea of deconstruction was not unlike that of Rei Kawakubo and he redesigned by hand, objects such as wigs, canvases and silk scarves into couture garments.
He reportedly retired in 2008 and the house is now run by a team of creatives, with no head designer.
His shows and advertising campaigns usually block out the faces of the models embracing this continuing thread of the "incognito."

What can we expect from the collaboration with H&M ? I am expecting the weird and the wonderful! Anything less will be disappointing. I think there is a danger that they will try and tone down the aesthetic for a consumer friendly product. However I think this would be a mistake and not a proper homage to a master of design. H&M should embrace the label's "outside the box" vibe and create something truly jaw dropping.

Collection is set to launch November 15th 2012. Until then check out this video released by H&M. It seems to be a basic sweater dress....or is it???

That's all for now,
Tell me what you think,
Love Dani xx

Blogger Spotlight: On my skin

Continuing on the theme of bloggers who inspire me, here is my latest inspiration Karin Velikonja. I recently discovered her when I joined ASOS' outfits and looks section.
I have posted some of my favourite looks of hers above. For me she has great personal style and still is on trend. I would describe her style as classic, feminine, colourful and trendy.
How would she describe herself? Find out for yourself by reading below :) Karin was kind enough to answer some questions for me.
Tell us about you. Who are you? Where are you from?
Hello there. My name is Karin and I come from small but lovely country - Slovenia. :)
Can you describe your style?
Trendy, sometimes classic but most of all elegant.

Why and when did you start blogging?
I've just recently opened my blog. I was a bit sceptic about the whole "opening thing" at first, but I just felt a strong need to express my style and my own look on fashion. And if I help someone to get some new idea with that my job is done.:)

For you what is great style?
Knowing your body, and your personality enough to dare to express it through different combinations is the best thing you can do. Great style has a person who observes trends but at the end stays truthful to her/himself and always keeps elegance. It's all about being elegant and classy.

Do you have any particular style icons that you look to for inspiration?
Since I was little I have always admired my mum's style and she really is my biggest inspiration. I'm so glad that we're the same size so I often find myself searching for pieces in her closet.:)
Style icons that I admire: Olivia Palermo and Ana Dello Russo.

Do you have any other favourite blogs or what makes a good blog for you?
I always love to take some time for myself and searching through my favourite blogs while drinking coffee always fills me up with energy and new ideas. One of the most inspiring blogs to me is Atlantic - Pacific. I just love Blair's style and her way of combining different materials and prints that seem hard to match on the first sight. Even though I don't think our style is very similar I still love her uniqueness and grace.

How is fashion part of your daily life? Is it something you would like to work in?
Everywhere I look I see fashion and no, I'm not obsessed with it. For me clothes aren't just clothes, they're much more than that. They help me to express myself, to show the world who I am without saying a word... Yes, my big wish is to work in fashion industry.

Are you a trend follower or do you stick to your personal style?
I follow trends but always stick to my personal style and listen to myself. I know what suits me best and I always choose clothes that make my figure look good, make me feel comfortable, and most important self-confident.

What are your favourite trends this season?
This season I must say neon and floral trend are big "MUST" in my closet. I was never so excited about mixing those two trends together and I just can't get enough of them.

Big name labels or high street steals? or a mix? Which is important for you?
I won't deny. My favourite label is Chanel, but in my opinion good taste just can't be bought by wearing expensive clothes only.

It's all about combining affordable ones and then add a little touch of elegance: a piece of jewelry or bag that pops out and makes your outfit unique.
The real success is when you buy affordable clothes and YOU transform them into high fashion.
Thanks Karin ! Karin is a relatively new blogger so show her some love and visit her blog by clicking here
you won't be disappointed.
That's all for now,
Let me know your thoughts
