The "it" shoe of fall 2011 is the Miu Miu glitter bootie. I am in love with these shoes. Perfect for Christmas they have all the sparkle that makes me reminisce of dressing up as angels/fairies for school plays, the layers of tinsel we draped ourselves in would give any Christmas tree a run for their money.
However at the 600 euro mark they are a little out of my budget. I am not the only fan, bloggers have been blogging, tweeting, facebooking and exploding over these Miu Miu beauties leading to Topshop and Steve Madden creating their own copies inspired versions. Great work on the part of Topshop and Steve Madden, but I have to say they are just not as good as the real deal.

As a fashion enthusiast I would say I can easily spot a fake Louis or a dodgy Fendi. It has to be very good copy to get past me from a distance but if I am face to face with the miscreant I can tell straight away. Its easy to dismiss the copy when you have the money for the real thing. I however even I don't have the cash of the Kardashian sisters, not even the cash of one of them!

Call it a sixth sense if you will, but I have always been able to spot a fake. My mum distinctlys remembers a Christmas, me age 3, rambling on and on about this doll I had seen on T.V. She could sing or dance or pee, something, I can't really remember. I had never seen the doll in real life just on the T.V. advert. That is what I HAD to have for Christmas. However it seemed every other little girl seemed to have the same idea and when mum went to get it and it had sold out. In an act of desperation she bought a similar doll. They looked alike and did quite the same thing, but she was cheaper in price. A 3 year old would never notice, right?? Wrong ! Christmas morning came, and as I rang excitedly into the living room, I stopped dead in front of the doll. Only it was not the doll but her cheap imitation. "Santa got me the wrong one" I cried. My mum couldn't believe I knew the difference. But I did !

So if Santa was to bring me a pair of Steve Madden's or Topshop booties, I wouldn't say no, after all its not the shoes fault. But they would just make me think of the Miu Miu shoes, I can't have.
In further reflection check out the effort of this blogger in her DIY Miu Miu glitter booties....I think I'd rather admire them on Alexa Chung from afar than go this trouble ! Very admirable.

Let me know your thoughts on designer inspired clothes, shoes and bags ! Do you agree with faking it ??
Ciao for now,
